The group will be composed of 15 Arab women and five Jewish women. The reason for the unequal number is that we currently need more Arab facilitators who could use this educational model in a variety of settings within the Arab sector and in mixed groups. After completing the 10 month course the participants will join an existing group as assistants for a six month period of field training. During this time they will practice leading the groups with the supervision of our staff. After six months the ones who are ready according to staff assessment will be paired with a more experienced staff member and begin leading workshops. (One 10 month workshop per year for 20 participants --- 320 hours).
2. From War to Awareness and Empowerment (BWWAT) – This workshop is for Arab and Jewish working women and mothers and is designed to help participants work through their war traumas and other issues related to living in Israel and teach them techniques which can help them in dealing better with crisis situations and resisting conflicts. (2 five month workshops per year with 20 participants in each – 80 hours).
hours).
3. Empathy in the home (BWPT) – This workshop is designed for parents who are raising children in a war zone and need support in dealing on a daily basis with their own and their children’s fears so they can continue behaving rationally and resisting conflict when possible as well as developing empathy for others in similar situations on the other side of the border and the Green Line. (One eight month workshop for 20 participants - - 96 hours).
4. Trauma First Aid (BWFAT) -- These weekend workshops are designed to teach participants simple body oriented tools (from Capacitar and Popular Education) that can help them recover more quickly in trauma situations and help those around them do the same. (Four weekend workshops with 20 participants in each per year – 16 hours). During the second year there will be two weeklong trainings in these methods for those interested in teaching them.
5. From empowerment to action (BWAT) -- This second year course will be taught in conjunction with Citizens for the Environment in the Galilee and is designed for Arab and Jewish women from Nazareth and Upper Nazareth who have gone through our course from War to Awareness and Empowerment or one of the other courses. The course will be taught over a period of six months and each meeting will be divided into three parts. The first parts will be focused on dealing with personal issues that arise during the week using the Beyond Words model. The second part will include an in-depth exploration of non-violent approaches for promoting social and political transformation. In the third part the group will focus on a couple of relevant issues troubling the Arab citizens of Nazareth and the Arab and Jewish citizens of Upper Nazareth and work together using some of the techniques they studied to affect change. (Two six month courses with 14 participants in each - -96 hours each).
6. Staff supervision and enrichment workshops (BWST)– The goals of these workshops are twofold. First they are designed to provide additional training and supervision on complicated issues that come up in the different trainings and between staff members as part of the daily running of the centre. Secondly the workshops will provide enrichment in new peace building and empowerment techniques that can be used as part of the different activities comprising our action. Two workshops will be led by professional renowned leaders and two by our senior staff members. (Four workshops a year, once every three months for the twelve Jewish and Arab women staff members of the centre--- 16 hours each).
